Our medical team is trained in the control of child behaviour carrying out dental treatment as though it were a game. Throughout the treatment, prizes are given out. Furthermore, the children watch cartoons on the screens which are installed in each of the dentist’s chairs. The aim is to create trust and to make each child feel comfortable while being treated.
It is recommended that dental visits begin in the first few years (3 or 4-years old) so that a good relationship is established between the child and the dentist. Similarly, it is important to predict growth patterns in order to evaluate any future need for interceptive orthodontics (which can only happen during a child’s development) creating space and helping or hindering maxillary or mandibular growth.
Use a small brush with soft filaments as soon as the first teeth begin to appear. It is good to do this playfully, familiarising the child with the activity. Supervise your children’s brushing until they are at least six years of age.
A low- sugar diet and periodic visits to the dentist are advised -before any teeth begin to hurt.
Avoid allowing your child to sleep with a bottle, especially if it contains sugary liquids or fruit juice. This habit is prejudicial and is difficult to give up later on.
Children learn by copying what they see. It is essential that they see us looking after our oral health.
